Project Galle 2005
An appeal for direct cash assistance for the victims of the Dec 26th Tsunami in Sri Lanka through funding from the local Cork Community.
Small Business Unawatuna
In the immediate aftermath of the Tsunami, Cork Aid to Sri Lanka raised €29,000 in direct aid, which helped provide food, shelter, medical supplies and dealt with the immediate needs of the Tsunami victims.
Small Business Galle
Following on from the success in re-establishing small businesses in Unawatuna, Majella decided to expand the project to incorporate the rejuvenation of small businesses in Galle as well. With the help of local man Mr. Khalid, Cork aid were able to funnel aid to businesses most in need.
Tsunami Scholarship Programme
The aim of the Tsunami Scholarship Program is to provide relief and long term ongoing support to school children affected by the Tsunami. This support is in the form of direct financial assistance. The funds each student receives are employed for educational purposes.
Sr. Sulochana Project
The aim of this project was to get funds delivered directly to the children of Sri Lanka.
Children's Home
The aim of this project is to rebuild the children's home, which was washed away in the December 26th Tsunami.
Lakmal IT Project
Lakmal is a bright young Sri Lankan man, who is eager to put the devastation of the Tsunami behind him and focus on establishing a career. When Majella met him on her last visit to Sri Lanka, she was impressed by his obvious ability and helped him to purchase computer equipment, so he could open a multimedia centre.
Nino Doll Project
12,000 children (Niños) were swept away in the Dec 26th 2005; to commemorate those 12,000 lost lives, Majella and Mark Tarbatt have commissioned 12,000 Nino Dolls which will be sold online at www.ninodoll.org and offline in Brown Thomas stores in the run up to the first anniversary, with the aim of creating 12,000 Passports to Education with proceeds from the sales of the Dolls.
